If you are heading to metro areas like Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane or Gold Coast, most simcards are suitable and offer good features. Optus30 sim (product link here) has been our most popular simcard with its generous data, free international call (direct line, not on data) and unlimited local call/sms.
If you are heading to more remote areas, we would recommend Telstra simcard (product link here) as they have more network coverage in those rural locations. Places in Tasmania are best with Telstra simcard as well.

Yes, it is a fully functional simcard with local mobile number assigned. You can use it for Voice calls, SMS and Data usage.
Based on our experience, you will need a local number for Uber/ Taxi/ Food Delivery/ AirBnB/ Hotel Accommodation/ Car Rentals etc. Having a Data-Only simcard is not very handy, and often you will encounter inconveniences or expensive roaming charges to make call or send SMS.

Self activation is required as it is strictly regulated in Australia as part of counter-terrorism act. Everyone who needs to connect his/her mobile simcard, will need to go through the activation and verification process. This is a very straightforward process and we have provided the simple steps for your reference >> here << (activation steps are available for Optus/Telstra/Lebara simcard). Please follow the instruction and you should be able to activate the card in no time. (PS: never share your personal details online including getting a pre-activated Australian simcard as you can't verify whose account has been used to activate your sim)

Unless you have Australian ID like driving license, medicare card or Australian Passport, you will need to enter Australia and perform self-activation using the steps that we have provided for your convenience. With Shopee, SingPost Speedpost will deliver the parcel direct to your mailbox and they typically do so within 1-2 business day(s) upon posting. While they have been reliable, it is recommended that you give allowance of up to 3 biz day in case of unexpected delay.
